James 3:13-18

James 3_13-18.jpg

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. – James 3:13-18

Dear Jesus,

Help me discern the difference between the wisdom that you give and the counterfeit wisdom from the pit.  I can tell when I get anxious over my desires, plans or ideas.  It’s almost like I need them to work out for me to be happy.  That’s when I lose humility and scheme on how to get my way.  I get angry with anyone in my way and envious of those who win support for their ideas over mine.  But the wisdom and ideas you give make me more peaceful, content and focused on building unity and oneness around me.  Oh, make me a wise person that reaps a harvest of goodness for everyone who works beside me.

Amen
