James 4:1-3

James 4_1-3.jpg

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. – James 4:1-3

Dear Jesus,

Keep me mindful that the greatest battle is not between me and people who work with me but between me and my sinful nature.  Give me what I need and anything from the list of my wants that you think will bless me without harm. Give me a heart for others so that I fight to get them what they need or want instead of what I want.  And give me a spiritual diagnostic sense that detects wrong motives as soon as they sprout in my heart and the courage to deal with them before they make it to my lips or actions. Make me a giver and not a taker, like you.

Amen

There’s few things more beautiful than watching two Christians argue over whose going to let the other one have their way.
