Revelation‬ ‭1:17-18

When I saw Jesus, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
- Revelation‬ ‭1:17-18

Dear Jesus,

I love how you reached out and put your hand on John’s shoulder. He was suffering in a very tough situation. He was lonely, tired, scared and frustrated. Life was too big for him and he knew it. But when you touched his shoulder and reminded him that you had defeated death, our biggest enemy, and that you held the keys to the next life, then he was able to move forward in hope. He knew he would live through it as a true spiritual being forever. He knew his sins would not disqualify him either. He knew he was safe even though he had felt insecure before. I know it too. Seeing you do this for John makes me believe you do it for us too. Your scarred hand is on my shoulder. I can face today with faith, hope and love.

Amen

God’s greatest gift is not changing our temporary earthly circumstance. It’s changing our alone-ness with his eternal, supportive presence.
