John 19:28-30

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. – John 19:28-30

Dear Jesus,

Oh, how you waited patiently or your whole entire life for this one triumphal moment when you would know that every passage about you had been fulfilled, that every sin of every person would be completely paid for, that every soul would be purchased and that every spiritual blessing had been fully funded.  You had finished suffering and now you were ready to deliver the goods to us.   The reality that you had satisfied all justice and had changed your Father’s feeling toward humanity forever was an incredible relief for you.  I hear your triumph and your love in your final words, “It is Finished, Father into your hands I commit my spirit.”  Thank you Jesus for finishing what I could never start.  I owe my body and soul to you out of a debt of gratitude.

Amen

All people will finish their lives saying “Unfinished!” save one and that one saved all by ending his life with “Finished!”
