Isaiah 40:3-5

Isaiah 40_3-5.jpg

A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
    the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert
    a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be raised up,
    every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
    the rugged places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
    and all people will see it together.
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” - Isaiah 40:3-5

Dear Father,

You promised a voice to come and herald that your Son had left heaven for earth. You promised that voice would prepare us. You promised that voice would tear down the walls we had build around our hearts. You promised that voice would fill in the gaps and low places in our reasoning. You promised a voice to lead us to Christ. John the Baptist was that voice and he was perfect for his generation. He is perfect for me, too. I hear his voice when I read the Gospel accounts of what he said. His voice leads me to you. It drives me to seek grace and mercy. It humbles me and encourages me all at the same time. Thank you God for the voice that announced the greatest player in my life.

Amen

God chose to give his word a voice so that his word might come alive to give us a living faith.
