Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy. – Matthew 5:7

Dear Jesus,

Sometimes I think you love to make sure everyone knows the rules so they will get in line.  That’s probably more because I want everyone else to follow the rules too.  But you love it more when we understand forgiveness, show mercy and give people relief from guilt and suffering.  You even tell me that if I believe in mercy enough to share it I will keep receiving mercy from you.  I already have your mercy but you would pull it back if I let my heart refuse to practice mercy toward others.  Oh Jesus, make me merciful like you.  Make me relieve the burdens of guilt, shame and trouble.  Make me one who surprises others with grace and forgiveness too.

AMEN

Pastor Don Patterson

Mercy toward another is like blowing heaven’s breath into their face.
