Matthew 2:13-15

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” - Matthew 2:13-15

 Dear Heavenly Father,

I get mildly depressed the days after Christmas because of the let down.  But it pales in comparison to what you allowed your Son and his parents to go through the days after the wise men brought their gifts.  They had to run for their lives.  You caused your most favored children to serve you and the planet in severe ways.  Why would I doubt your love just because you ask me to quickly return to service right after Christmas.  I'm here as your servant.  Help me to keep a servant's heart and not fall into the temptation that life is about being served and coddled by others.  I want to reflect your Son's love for everyone in the hopes that others see him through me.  Make me a happy and willing servant who gives freely instead of pouts as one slighted by the needs of others.

Amen

It's hard to be taken advantage of when you see helping others as a privilege.
