Matthew 8:23-27

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” – Matthew 8:23-27

Dear Jesus,

I want that kind of faith that trusts in your goodness and protection even in the midst of a frightening storm. I don’t just want to be amazed that you can and will take care of us.  I want to be convinced of it.  I want to be courageous and calm even though the valley of the shadow of death surrounds me.  I want to believe that you are there and that you will see me through every hard time.  I want this great faith but I can’t produce it.  I can name it but I can’t make it.  You have to give it to me.  So, please, in your mercy, give me the faith that you and I both want me to have.  Be my Savior and replace my faithless heart with trust in you.

AMEN

Faith is a gift from God who knows we need it as much as his help.
