Isaiah 55:8-11

Isaiah 55_8-11.jpg

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow
    come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
    without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.          -Isaiah 55:8-11

Dear Lord,

On this 500th anniversary of the Reformation, when you raised up Luther and his friends to restore your word to your church, I thank you because that word in my language has become spiritual food and life for me. Like your rain, it cannot touch me without producing life. It liberates me from the consequences of sin. It helps me find the reason and the power to live a good life in your eyes. It give me hope and peace. Thank you for revealing yourself to me deep in my soul through the clear spring water of the bible.
