Matthew 5:5

Blessed are the meek,
    for they will inherit the earth. – Matthew 5:5

Dear Jesus,

I have often thought that meekness was weakness.  I have even actively tried not to be meek.  Then you say, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”  You once described yourself as meek.  But you were anything but weak.  So, meekness must be something other than weak and shy.  It must be about an attitude of dependence on our Father instead of thinking it is all about me and my effort.  It must be about denying me the privilege of credit for earning what are really the gifts of a benevolent Father.  It must be about holding others up instead of pushing them down.  It must be about competing without manipulating, about working hard without angst and bitterness, too.  It must be about springing into action when you call and holding back when you say sit.  It must be about contentment with my callings, too.  Oh, Jesus you were perfect at this.  Thanks for getting it right for me.  Make me better at it, too.
